The Scrabble world converged in St. Louis, Missouri, from August 2 to 6, 2025, for one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year - Word Cup 2025, organized by the Collins Coalition (CoCo). With over 30 intense games, a $40,000+ prize pool, and world-class players battling it out, the event delivered top-tier competitive excitement.

Among the 100+ participants, Nigeria once again left its mark on the world stage. Spearheading that charge was none other than Wellington Jighere, Nigeria’s most decorated Scrabbler and a former world champion. Wellington dominated the top division, clinching the Division 1 title in spectacular fashion.


 “It’s always a privilege to play at this level. Word Cup pushes us to the limit, and I’m proud to bring this win home for Nigeria,” said Wellington in his post-victory remarks.

The Miracle Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok has been confirmed as the official venue for the Causeway Challenge 2026, taking place from 29th May to 1st June 2026 according to Michael Tang This year’s event promises to be bigger than ever with 500 players competing across 5 Divisions in an open tournament format.
